Flat Stanley Part IV

When it came time to check the tire pressure for their last day of the epic journey, Flat Stanley was very helpful, almost too helpful. He volunteered to lay UNDER the tire to check the pressure since he is already flat. Fortunately for Flat Stanley this was totally unnecessary as air pressure can be measured using the air pressure gauge at
many gas stations.

"Flats" was excited to stop in a small town in called Elk Horn, Iowa. That town is the largest rural Danish settlement in the United States. Rana and Flat Stanley took a tour of the Danish Windmill and learned that the people of Elk Horn are very proud of their connection to Denmark.

Around the town of North Platte, Nebraska Rana found a drive through espresso bar and hoped that it would help flats and her drive another two hours. While there, they toured a sod house believed to be built around the time of the Pony Express. Here "Flats" poses with a very real looking buffalo who was actually made from wire frame.

A day later than planned, but feeling energized, the two arrived in Colorado. Almost as soon as they crossed the state line, Flat Stanley saw tumble weed drift across the highway. They officially made it to the West

Thus concludes the adventures of Charlie's Flat Stanely with Ben and then Rana. Ben would like to leave Charlie and Flat Stanley with this very important message:

Flat Stanley Part III

Flat Stanley began his trip to Nebraska as if it were any other day. He had his picture taken which was a real eye-opener. Stanley learned that having a picture taken at 7:00 AM is not so easy even with a good night's sleep.

At Cracker Barrel in Illinois, after sleeping in a very awkward half-folded position, it seemed that all "Flats" was up for was a light lunch and some time in one of their rocking chairs, observing the folks and chewing on straw. Unfortunately that straw was from a nearby rocker. "Flats" and Rana had no choice but to make a quick getaway...

Along the way to Iowa the dynamic duo surely seemed to travel around the world. They passed towns such as Marseilles, Peru and even Newton.

There were also many other towns with Native American names. Flat Stanley and Rana had fun trying to pronounce these words. One such town called Wauseon, Ohio is actually pronounced (WAW-see-ahn) according to the locals when asked. Finally, Stanley insisted on some much needed playground time right after crossing the Mississippi River.

Flat Stanley Part II

Today Flat Stanley had a late start but was eager to hit the road and see the sights. *Stanley doesn't have to use a car seat or seat belt only because he is flat.*

He made it through three states, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio traveling west on Interstate 70 and Interstate 80. In the Pittsburgh, PA area he saw some snow still on the ground. In Ohio the temperature was 10 degrees warmer than Pennsylvania even though the two states are next to each other!

Flat Stanley met a very nice Ohio State Trooper. A State Trooper is a police officer who can work in the whole state, not just one city. After Rana and "Flats" met the trooper they both decided to use the cruise control almost exclusively for the rest of their journey, even when passing very slow cars. Cruise control is the part on a car which can control the speed automatically for a person so he or she is sure to drive at the correct speed limit.

After this big day which brought Flat Stanley all the way to the border of Indiana, he went to bed. Flat Stanley didn't even want to read, play games or watch cartoons because he was very tired and wanted to be well rested for tomorrow's adventure to Nebraska!

Flat Stanley Part I

Charlie's Flat Stanley arrived in Baltimore very flat and unharmed. He then spent some quality time with Charlie's oldest brother Ben before taking a ride on an orange tabby cat named Mosey, who happened to be on Ben's lap at the time.

Flat Stanley took
some time to rest and found himself cuddling with another cat named Chloe. Ben thought Stanley was being attacked, but everything was okay and Chloe and Flat Stanley are now good friends.

Flat Stanley heard that Ben's friend Rana was going on a cross-country road trip all the way to Colorado and asked Ben if he could come along. Ben said that would be okay as long as Flat Stanley promised to keep him updated of his adventures and all the places he would go.

So, Rana and "Flats" decided to create a blog for Charlie's Flat Stanley project before he gets sent home to Massachusetts this weekend. Pages will be taken directly from the blog to create Charlie's Flat Stanley adventures letter.
