When it came time to check the tire pressure for their last day of the epic journey, Flat Stanley was very helpful, almost too helpful. He volunteered to lay UNDER the tire to check the pressure since he is already flat. Fortunately for Flat Stanley this was totally unnecessary as air pressure can be measured using the air pressure gauge atmany gas stations.
"Flats" was excited to stop in a small town in called Elk Horn, Iowa. That town is the largest rural Danish settlement in the United States. Rana and Flat Stanley took a tour of the Danish Windmill and learned that the people of Elk Horn are very proud of their connection to Denmark.Around the town of North Platte, Nebraska Rana found a drive through espresso bar and hoped that it would help flats and her drive another two hours. While there, they toured a sod house believed to be built around the time of the Pony Express. Here "Flats" poses with a very real looking buffalo who was actually made from wire frame.

A day later than planned, but feeling energized, the two arrived in Colorado. Almost as soon as they crossed the state line, Flat Stanley saw tumble weed drift across the highway.
